Our sash window materials
Adam Dream Frames offers sliding sash windows in traditional timber or low-maintenance uPVC.
uPVC Sash Windows
Adam Dream Frames uPVC sash windows seamlessly blend modern technology with traditional design. Featuring an innovative spiral balance mechanism, they operate just like a wooden sash window while preserving its authentic appearance. However, uPVC requires minimal maintenance, with no need for painting, and includes a tilt function for both sashes, making cleaning effortless. uPVC sash windows offer an excellent alternative, even for the rear of a property when the front requires timber.
• Exceptional value
• Spiral balance mechanism for a larger glass area
• Woodgrain uPVC finish – indistinguishable from timber
Timber Sash Windows
Adam Dream Frames timber sash windows are the ideal choice for those seeking an authentic replacement for wooden windows. Available in responsibly sourced Softwood (European Pine) or Hardwood (African Sapele), both options are expertly handcrafted. Our timber is laminated and engineered in layers for enhanced strength and rigidity. To ensure even greater durability, the softwood is finger-jointed to eliminate knots and resist twisting.
• Engineered wood to prevent rattling
• Choice of softwood or hardwood
• Smooth operation with traditional sash cords or modern spiral balance options
Commonly Asked Questions
Can you have double glazed sash windows?
Double glazed sash windows are an ideal choice for conservation areas or for those who wish to maintain the look and feel of a period property. You can opt for an authentic timber sash look or a maintenance free uPVC option available in woodgrain finishes.
Are Aluminium Windows better than uPVC?
Aluminium tends to be stronger than uPVC, which means that the frame of an aluminium window can have a slimmer profile and larger glass surface compared to its uPVC equivalent. However, aluminium conducts heat and cold and so is not as thermally efficient as wood or uPVC which are far better at reducing temperature transfer through the frame.
How does a sash window work?
Sash windows are comprised of one or two vertically sliding sashes. To enable the window to remain open a series of clever counterweights connected via a sash cord or a big spring called a spiral balance hold the window open. The sash cord runs over the top of a pulley along the top rail.
What is the difference between sash and casement windows?
The most important difference is that sash windows open vertically and casement windows normally open out or in like doors. Sash windows are the traditional window design and at Everest we feel have a classic timeless style that look great in old and new houses alike. A casement window is a modern variant being more practical and offering benefits such as better security as the lock is constructed within the frame and ease of cleaning. Sash windows are more complex in construction and can require some maintenance unlike casement which is very much fit and leave.
