What is a composite doors ?

A composite door is a combination of different materials to make a stronger, more durable door. The internal frame is made with steel reinforced rods for extra strength. The external skin is made from a layer of interwoven Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP), also known as fibreglass – it's exceptionally tough, weatherproof, and is moulded perfectly to replicate a wood grain.

Inside the door is injected with a thermal polyurethane foam core and offers excellent heat-retaining A-rated insulation with an A++-rated triple glazed option available.

Composite doors are made with the colour infused with the outer layer, so scratches don’t show and colours don’t fade. This style of door is hard-wearing, virtually maintenance-free and keeps looking its best for years.

Inside, the door is reinforced with steel, and a specially designed hinge bolt prevents the door from being lifted off its hinges. What are composite doors made from?

The external part of a composite door is made from a layer of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP), also known as fibreglass, the same material used to make fishing boats in the North Sea. It's tough, weatherproof and moulds perfectly to replicate a wood grain.

The tough exterior GRP panels are fused to an internal frame made from uPVC and layered inside that is another frame of hardwood which makes a double frame of superior stability and rigidity.

The internal space of the door is injected with a warm thermal polyurethane foam core that's 100% CFC and offers excellent heat retaining A-rated insulation to make your door more energy efficient.

The outer door frame is constructed from a sturdy 70mm uPVC profile with steel reinforcement rods.

What is the difference between uPVC and composite doors?

The main difference between uPVC and composite doors is in the materials. uPVC doors are constructed solely of uPVC a strong and durable form of plastic. Whereas, composite doors are made from a selection of materials including a solid timber core, glass reinforced polyester skins and uPVC frame. Composite doors, though more expensive, tend to be more popular due to their robust, long-lasting structure.

Do composite door colours fade?

Composite doors are crafted with a glass reinforced polyester (GRP) skin, known for its excellent colour retention. Each door is hand sprayed in your chosen colour using a special, hard-wearing acrylic paint, then cured in an infrared bake, ensuring the finish is so durable that it never requires repainting.

The colours on a composite door are designed to resist fading or wear, unlike regular painted doors. However, depending on the direction your door faces, it may still be exposed to the elements, particularly UV damage.
